Woven Baskets

Materials: Polyester & Nylon

Three sturdy baskets made from woven polyester plastic straps: one for daily use, one for tools, and another for foraging. Practical and durable, they suit a variety of different needs.

What was the first question you asked when starting this project?

Julian Blasio: The first question I asked myself was what material could I weave a basket with that's not wood or traditional basket materials? I wanted to make something that stood out and really felt unique.

What was the most challenging aspect of designing your baskets?

JB: I think what I found most challenging about this project was the learning curve. It was the first time I've ever woven a basket, so just starting off from scratch and learning how to do that was probably the biggest challenge.

What was the most successful element of your project?

JB: My greatest success in this project was all the preliminary research and ideation that I did. I really spent a lot of time doing interviews with different users and doing research into the topic to make sure that I was solving the correct problem.

What would you improve about your project in the future?

JB: I think I'd like to continue to create more baskets. and woven vessels but I'd also like to see how we can use this material in other ways maybe for furniture or home goods, just exploring how this material can be reused and recycled.
